I’m hoping someone can save me a massive headache!

Is there any way, even through a plugin, that I can export a marquee selection straight to "Save to Web". I spend a lot of time cutting websites and it’s such a hassle to crop/slice. The idea of slicing is great, but it becomes overkill for the amount of exporting I’m doing.

Does anyone know if this is possible? (think Illustrator CS3s crop tool)

It is probably possible with an action. Copy selected pixels, New document. Paste, Save for Web.

Ore maybe Crop and Save for web and then step back in History, as an action.

Check out the SiteGrinder plug-in for Photoshop (http://www.medialab.com/sitegrinder )

It converts Photoshop designs to working web sites without any slicing at all. You just name your layers based on certain roles (like "contact us-button" and "contact us-rollover") and it handles the rest. It supports buttons, menus, multiple pages, can convert Photoshop styled text directly to styled HTML, and a lot more.

I wrote it out of the exact same type of frustration you are experiencing. Slicing is labor intensive, tedious, error-prone, brittle monkey work.

Anyway, SiteGrinder is worth checking out.

Here is a script that I wrote that will create a new document from a selection:

Works for CS and above.
