Problem with CS3/CS2 accessing all harddrives on startup.

For some reason Photoshop CS3(and CS2) has to access all harddrives in a system when it starts up. That becomes problematic when a workstation has multiple drives and some of them have entered sleep mode(not being needed for work). Even though none of those drives were specified as scratch-drives or are involved in any other way, Photoshop sits there waiting for each of the drives to wake up.

Is there any chance that a particular plugin is the culprit? Or some other part of PS that could be deactivated?

if you’ve opened files from one of those drives, it could be looking to the files in the recent file list (file> open> recent). i don’t know of a solution except to copy the files to a local hard drive that doesn’t sleep first then open them.

Good idea. However, this happens on a clean install as well.

are you pointing at one or more of those drives in the prefrences for a scratch disk?

I would guess it likely could have something to do with the overkill anti-piracy crap as well. Judging by how it has been shown to work.

I’ve had it confirmed that the misbehavior is related to the licensing service in CS3, and perhaps it’s the same with CS2. As there’s probably no viable solution for that I just mention it here for reference.
