I am experienced through all versions of Photoshop. My recent upgrade to CS 2.3 has changed the way we operate with clients. Typically we preload the screen with a maximized chronological sequence/series of photos in Photoshop so that as we CLOSE ("X") each one while conferring with the customer – the next photo in the chronological order remains MAXIMIZED on the screen some zoomed and cropped to details. Typical is new home walkthroughs for realtors and home construction clients. However in this new version, when we close the maximized one, the next is no longer maximized but all the photos are tiled/cascade and we have to double-click the menu bar to re-maximize each photo. Noting that this behavior has never been present in previous versions – and that this is a specific change from previous versions – how can we address this to revert it to the previous behavior? Is there a toggle somewhere – a search of this and other Photoshop forums has come up empty.

Not surprising if you searched for Ps 2.3!

When reviewing images with a client I rarely use the Ps workspace as a presentation platform. Try to make a slideshow in Ps (or Lightroom), and show that.

The reason we use PS is because the realtor [ when doing brochure photos) may want a variation or modification (color shift, shadow highlights, and much etc) and we prefer to quickly run through ImageAdjustments with them onscreen on-the-spot rather than making notations [sticky notes, etc) on each file and then retrieving them later. The questions remain – 1) Why was this behavior changed? and 2) How can it be returned to previous behavior? (at least as a macro, or menu preference?)

Have a look on the Adobe Exchange site. I’m pretty sure there is an "on open" script which will do this.
