Hi there,

I’ve been using Photoshop for a long time, and am currently mainly involved in Design for Web (XHTML/CSS). The way I tend to work is pretty much mock the page up in Photoshop and then recreate using Dreamweaver.

One thing I find slightly time consuming is adjusting Text -Is there away to apply a Colour Background to a Text Box in Photoshop? or indeed Illustrator? basically what Would be really handy is the ability to Draw a text box colur the background, and give it Padding etc – Does anyone know if this is possible?

Color-filling a text box is easy in Illustrator.

In Photoshop you have to create a separate rectangle behind the Paragraph Text Box.

As for setting padding offsets I don’t think either app will do it the same way you can with HTML. You’d have to fake it.

But I certainly wouldn’t mind being corrected on the padding issue if I’m wrong.

If you are using Photoshop to design web pages, maybe you should check out the SiteGrinder plug-in. It converts Photoshop designs to web sites and it has the ability to convert styled Photoshop text directly to styled HTML.

To your specific need, SiteGrinder has a Decoration pane where you can apply background colors and borders to text layers, since Photoshop, as you noted, doesn’t have that ability.
