Am running Windows XP with 512mb ram and been using Photoshop 5.5 for years and years. Suddenly i cannot find any of my tools. The tools palette has disappeared. I go to window and click on show tools and they still do not appear. But in the lower left the eyedropper is there, but yesterday it was a different tool.

Can anyone help me get my tools back again. I cannot work without them and for two days I have stumbled around trying to get to the bottom of what happened, but to no avail. 🙁

Not exactly sure what the problem is. Where is this eyedropper? Is it the cursor? Do different keys bring up different tool cursors?

The Tab key hides all palettes and brings them back. Shift-Tab hides the toolbar and brings it back is that it?

Or is there a tiny bar in the area the palette should be? In that case it is windowshaded. Double-click on that bar.

If none of those things work, trash/reset Preferences as per the FAQs.

WHEN I HIT TAB THE OTHER ITEMS DISAPPEAR AND REAPPEAR INCLUDING THE BOTTOM EYEDROPPER. SO LOOKS LIKE THE TOOLS HAVE BEEN TRANSFERED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN, BUT EVEN AT THAT I CANNOT TOGGLE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM TO GET RECTANGLE, CROP, ETC. WISH I JUST COULD GET THEM BACK IN ONE PALETTE.

Stop shouting please and try trashing your preferences. Details in the FAQs.

Sorry if I mislead you about Shift-Tab (which I corrected quickly in editing) but I DID suggest trashing Preferences which ought to do the trick.

PS: No one became "unglued" except…
