CS3 Extended memory leak?

I have CS3 extended on a AMD dual core with WIN/XP and 4GB with /3GB option.

I find that after processing a large complex file memory usage (shown on Task Manager) climes to 2.4GB. If I close the image file the system memory usage does not change. In fact, if I try to work on another large file, I get "not enough RAM".

If I shut down CS3 and restart it the memory used then drops.

Anyone else seeing this? If not, advice?

John

Most likely your experience is caused by (even if the progem deallocates it) until the program exits. If this is an OS problem, there is very little that PS can do.

Sorry, the first sentence should read:

"Most likely your experience is caused by the operating system because most of them do not release memory until the program exits, even if the program deallocates memory when appropriate."

John I was having a similar issue although I didn’t check my task manager. But after working for a period of time the computer would freeze for a moment and give me a memory error. I went into preferences and unchecked the export to clipboard option and haven’t had the issue since.

John, just my two cents, but here is one thing you might try: Disable the /3GB switch and go back to Windows normal settings.

I also have a dual core AMD (Opteron) with 4GB RAM. About a year ago, I tried the /3GB switch and it seemed to be working great – for a while. Then I started getting different kinds of instability issues at random times. I pulled my hair out trying to figure it out, until it occured to me to undo the 3GB thing. Doing that made a host of random problems go away. As usual, your mileage may vary, but remember that Adobe doesn’t officially support the 3GB switch.
