Using Photoshop CS2 in XP. Have always just clicked type tool and selected a spot and begun typing and it worked.

Now, suddenly, type does not appear on screen. It appears on the layer palette line for that layer, but does not appear on graphic. I have the type and color settings the same as always. Obviously something changed, but nothing that I knowingly did. Any ideas?

Check the Image> Mode … is it RGB

Check the Image > Image Size. If the resolution is less than 72, this can be a problem.

Have a look at the Character Palette.

Make sure the value for Baseline is set to "0".

Have a look at the menu that drops from the little right-pointing triangle UI widget at the top right of the Character palette. Ther’s a choice to reset the Character options to Photoshop’s default.

Also, look at the following entry from tis forum’s FAQ section. Pay particular attention to Len Hewitt’s reply #2, and have a look at the image linked at the bottom of his reply. It can solve all sorts of "odd" tool behaviors.
