currently intel has amd beat every which way from sunday. the core2duo chips are screamers. i have a 6600 running on an intel 975bx motherboard. rock solid.
I’m happy with my AMD X2, built before the newest Intels came out. If I were building today, Intel would be my choice, maybe.
You see, Intel is soon to eclipse their current chips with the Penryn processors. And if AMD continues their current price cuts, you might be able to build a very serviceable Athlon box for cheap that will tide you over until the new Intels hit the market. If you’re currently running something older and slug-like, the AMD dual cores will seem like light speed.
I built my rig one year ago, and went with an AMD X2. Im pleased with it. Things change fast in computer technology, and tho I havent been spending much time in the computer forums lately, it seems like the new Intel core2duo processors are the current rage. My guess is that you will be pleased with either. If you want the current hot processor, you will pay for it. I went with the AMD X2 3800+ that cost me $315 a year ago, and I see they sell for around $150 now.
I dont know if its proper to put links to other forums here, hope not, but here is a good place to do some research on computers. You can research AMD and Intel there. diy-street.com
