Luckily, I can’t remember having to deal with those file formats in the past… decade.

BMPs are still somewhat common. The default way of taking a Windows screenshot (at least up to XP, IIRC) creates a BMP.

The standard warnings about opening files from strangers also applies. To that, you are correct… anyone who emails you a BMP is up to no good even if it isn’t tricked out with a virus.

BMP no need for them. Windows will use other formats for wall paper if one wishes to waste system resources on eye candy. As for screen shots, well if you use a decent program you don’t have to use BMP either.
