Hope you’ve got more than one jpg, or you’re not going to have a very interesting animation. Just save as PSD, add layers to use for the different frames and bring it into ImageReady. There you can further tweak the layers, frames and times. Then save for web and choose animated gif.

Jonah,

What kind of animation are you wanting to create? More details would help you to get more detailed answers. As Eric said you will need to use Image ready and in most cases will need layers unless you are just animating a single image moving around the frame.

Forgot to mention – then export as GIF.

Cheesefood,

It sounds like you are describing something that could be done much easier with…

File -> Import -> Folder As Frames

Even if they are not sequential frames it will put all of your images into one file for you.

That assumes that you want to put every image in the folder into the GIF. Using your method, it would be easy to create a folder, dump all your images into it, then use those steps. However, opening the files than cutting and pasting isn’t too difficult.
None of the methods listed are any more or less work than the others. It’s just preference.
