Installed CS3 yesterday and was in it looking at things several times. The only problem I had was when closing Bridge once I got the error the Bridge was having trouble and would have to close (I closed it).

Today I had Bridge open by itself, set my prefs, and then closed with no problem. Tonight I loaded CS3 and right after the splash screen appeared I got the message that CS3 couldn’t load because it couldn’t find MSVCRT10.dll.

A search of my hard drive C, where Pshop is installed, shows that file in the Adobe\Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Optional Plug-Ins\Ffactory\.

Obviously when the FilterFactory plugins are loading there is a problem. Appreciate any help.

Go here – <http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcrt10> – and get it, just download and unzip or drag from zip into your Photoshop folder. This was a CS2 problem too and it’s something that Photoshop needs to connect to older filters, I think. Anyway, adding it to the main Photoshop folder will fix it or just copy the one you have into the main folder. Hopefully…

That one was easy but I get a missing dbghelp.dll file on startup but I click OK and Photoshop continues to load. I had this same problem with CS2. It’s annoying and I wish someone could help. I downloaded the file from the same site as above and am not sure about adding it in to Photoshop because it’s a Registry file, I think.

Judith,

When you obtain msvcrt10.dll, you need to place it in your c:\windows\system32 directory.

Mimi,

I don’t think any DLL file is a "registry file" per se, but it may well need to be registered with Windows, which I’m guessing means that some kind of entry referencing the file does get added to the Windows Registry.

I found dbghelp.dll on my PC under c:\windows\system32, so I suggest you copy it to there. Attempting to register it, I got an error message that the entry point could not be found, so I think there’s nothing you need to do other than place the file in the system32 directory. Looking at the file properties, it is some sort of "image helper" file from Microsoft.

Regards,

Daryl

Mimi and Daryl:

Thanks so much. I have downloaded the dll and will put in the system 32 directory, where it is not located. I could try putting the Ffactory version there, but will try this one first.

Last night after reading through the Pshop knowledge base articles I did find one relating to the missing msvcrt10.dll message. I checked all their suggestions — using older plugins from previous versions or pointing to a second plugin subdirectory. None of these applied as I haven’t installed any of my plugins and had not pointed to the 2nd directory. I did find a readme in the Ffactory folder. I think this is one that I copied from the Goodies folder on the CS3 install disk, but am not sure. It said to place Msvcrt10.dll in the Photoshop subdirectory, which I then did (it was in the Ffactory subdirectory). It made no difference.

I’ll let you know if your suggestion worked.

BTW, I did find that if I just kept trying to X out the error screens — and they kept coming — CS3 eventually loaded and ran normally. That suggests that the error is not just coming from the Ffactory filters.

I’m still getting the "Bridge is having a problem and will have to close" error message when I close Bridge. It doesn’t interfere with anything but is annoying. I’ve seen many reports of this error, but no solution. Have you seen one?

Mimi and Daryl:

OK, that worked. I put the .dll into the Windows\System32 subdirectory and everything is fine now. As I slowly install my plugins I’m sure I’ll run into some of the older error messages again, such as the one where it’s looking for MMXcore or something like that.

Appreciate your help.
