I have the original CS (8.0) program. Windows XP Professional. My computer crashed. I re-installed CS. Message said installation was successful. However the program starts, gets to "searching for plug ins" then times out and I get the message the program is not responding. I called Tech Support, but they cannot help because they do not support the original CS any longer. Can anyone out there help. I really don’t want to buy another version. Thank you.

John,

During startup Ps scans for plugins etc. When it finds them but misses components (dll’s?) then that’s the program that’s "not responding".

Try to reinstall the plugins too. Also, in the case PS expects some plugins to be in a certain directory, do point to that dir in Ps preferences. (like it might have been in the previous state).

or failing that,

run add remove programs from the control panel and remove the new installation cleanly. then search the drive for any remnants of the old app. especially in:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_XP_USER_NAME\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop

and delete those.

then reinstall cs and the 2 plugin updates. (adjusted refresh and multiprocessor updates). THEN reinstall your plugins.
