installing upgrade without installing full version first

I just bought a new computer with Vista Ultimate.
I also just received my CS3 upgrade.
Do I need to install my old CS version first before installing the upgrade or can I just install the upgraded version of CS3.
I have all of my old serial numbers.
I hate to install more than I need to on a new computer.

Just install the upgrade but have the CS CDs and serial number handy.
