I’ve yet to install CS3…

What are the symptoms: Error message when trying to record? No command recorded? Command recorded but it doesn’t work? …or ???

no ‘preset clipboard’ command recorded. instead what’s recorded is full of detailed document info. if ‘preset clipboard’ is recorded from cs2 it doesn’t work with cs3. other presets can be recorded but not ‘clipboard’. seems to be a bug. 🙁

What is ‘preset clipboard’?

when you copy something, and you make a new document, you’ll notice it default the new document preset to ‘clipboard’

it’s always been like that (at least back to version 6 when i wrote my file> new action).

you need to stop the action at the file> new dialog then hit enter. that allows the system to fill in the clipboard size. otherwise all you’ve done is record the size of the clipboard at recording time into the action.

to stop the action click the little square next to the "Make" step. (mine says: Make
New: Document
Preset: Clipboard).

the box is called "Toggle dialog on/off".

imported my action created from cs2 with

Make
New: Document
Preset: Clipboard

and it doesn’t work in cs3. and i can’t record it that way in cs3 either.

and it doesn’t work in cs3.

you need to toggle the "Toggle dialog on/off" switch on that step in the actions palette.

Dave, you can’t even record that in CS3. When you record File>New with the clipboard preset, it hard-codes the size into the action step and doesn’t give you the option to toggle the dialog on/off. I just tried it.

and doesn’t give you the option to toggle the dialog on/off.

that’s weird. every step with a dialog previously allowed you to toggle it. still allen said he had one from cs2. he could use that. i’m using one i made in version 6.

when i use the one i made from cs2, i already have the dialog toggled off but it shows up everytime i perform the action–which is annoying.

You can not count on it.

but it shows up everytime i perform the action

again… if you turn off the dialog you can NOT get the clipboard dimensions. at least i’ve never been able to. the action records the clipboard dimentions at the time you recorded the action.

with the dialog off, the new doc will always be the same size as it was when you first recorded the action.

I have my version assigned to a function key ( F6 ). i press F6 then ENTER, to create a new document with the dimentions of hte clipboard image. that’s the way it’s always worked.

the recording is specifically not working for the preset clipboard in cs3. other presets record fine, however, just not clipboard.

the recording is specifically not working for the preset clipboard in cs3.

yup. sorry for the confusion w/o actually trying it. confirmed in cs3 ee. it records the exact size settings that are in the clipboard and retrieves them as "Custom" not "Clipboard".

when you go to play back with the dialog toggle on, clipboard isn’t available in the dropdown (greyed out) and the dropdown is set to "Custom".

due to more than a couple requests for the action i mentioned above via email, i’ve posted it on the web here:

new_paste.atn <http://www.milbut.org/new_paste.atn>

you need to save it somewhere on your hard drive then load it from the action palette context menu.

cheers, dave

I found this bug too – I was just about to POST on here about it and found this thread 🙂

In CS2 I had an action that created a New Document using the Clipboard preset, paste the clipboard into the documents and flatten the image – all in a press of a button. CS3 does not allow you to do this as per above – it always uses the dimensions from the original clipboard you used for the recording… boo hoo!
