After I installed CS3 on a Win XP / SP2 system, windows explorer no longer display thumbs for CR2 files(have not checked for NEF). I re-installed the windows raw thumb viewer from microsoft – no luck.

How do you "tell windows" to display the thumbnails for CR2 files?

You don’t. That feature was eliminated after version 7 to avoid problems that many users encountered with opening and saving image files, due to a bug in the OS.

Also had the same problem – along with some other people I know. It seems CS3 knocks out the RAW thumbnail viewing facility.

Normally reinstalling the RAW viewer for Explorer sorts the problem out – it did with me.

Hi Michael,

No, the problem is with WINDOWS EXPLORER and the display of thumbnails – not INTERNET EXPLORER.

I missed the fact that you were referring to the MS Raw Viewer shell extension, rather than viewing PSDs; I understood you wer talking about Windows Explorer, not IE. Anyway, there were reports that the MS Raw Viewer was causing the same problems caused by the psicon.dll shell extension that used to let you view thumbnails of PSDs — it sometimes prevents saving files. Also, I seem to recall that the metadata in the MS Raw viewer was not compatible with the metadata used by ACR.
