A strange thing`happened…it seems that after I installed Capture NX I am unable to open NEF files in cs2 for camera raw editing. If I open a nef file with cs2 set as my default, cs2 opens but says file type cannot be opened. If I open in Capture NX all is fine…

Is there anyway to open these NEF files in cs2?

Thanks

Actually, if you read the Camera Raw FAQ, you will notice that installing any Nikon software replaces the Adobe Camera Raw plugin with Nikon’s. Which results in you getting the error message you’re getting.

You need to remove the Nikon plugin (I don’t know the file name of whatever ships with NX), and reinstall your Adobe plugin.

More detailed directions are in the Camera Raw area’s FAQ as well as in a large number of threads….

You don’t need to reinstall the Adobe plugin. It’s just that with both Adobe and Nikon plugins installed the Nikon one is taking over.

Look in the "Plug-Ins -> File Formats" folder as well as in the "Plug-Ins -> Adobe Photoshop Only -> File Formats" folder and pull anything with the word Nikon attached.

Re-launch Photoshop and all will be as it was before.
