I have a layer of an image with a mask. I have put a pattern on top of a grid. I scale it down to 1% and it looks great. But I need the pattern on top of several layers including a couple shapes and text, so I merge them all onto one layer. But when I apply the SAME blending option to that layer, nothing happens! it’s as if there’s no blending option at all. But when I scale it to 3%, then the pattern appears, but it’s too big for what I want, which makes it useless.

why would a blending effect be one way on a layer and the same is different on another layer. both layers are simple images. The ONLY difference is that one is masked. please help!!
