Desktop XP Home – Laptop XP Pro

Have been using CS3 for a while now and am quite happy with it. Install went without problem, have had no crashes, it runs well on both machines and everything functions as is. I did not uninstall CS2 prior to installing CS3 and now have both version running.

However, I am now considering uninstalling CS2 from my systems in order to free up HD space but when looking in the Programme list I note that CS2 installed with 284MB and CS3 with only 38MB which does indeed seem small by comparison. I am assuming therefore, that there is some file sharing going on here.

Has anyone had CS2/3 installed at the same time and then later uninstalled CS2? Is there file sharing going on, and when removing CS2 does one get an option of retaining the shared files? I don’t want to uninstall CS2 and then later experience problems with CS3. 🙁

File sharing apart, in my opinion the benefits of having the previous version available far outweigh the reletively small amount of real estate freed up after removal.

Fully understand your sentiments chris and can’t fault your reasoning. However, just where does one draw the line with regards to how many versions we have installed at one time?

Regarding the use of hard drive space, if you are looking in the "Add or Remove Programs" list, forget it – it is totally unreliable.

Look at the properties of the CS2 and CS3 folders in C:\Program files under Adobe.

…. and that’s not the whole story either!

But keep two versions anyway, you can’t possibly know at this stage if CS3 isn’t going to throw a wobbly!

OK – I’m convinced, 2 it is.

John Joslin/chrisjbirchall – Wow, what a discrepancy between Windows "Add or Remove Programs" list and what the folder info reveals.

Adobe CS3 296MB
Adobe Bridge CS3 10.4MB
Adobe Stock Photos 6.94MB
Adobe Utilities (whatever that is) 18.2MB
Adobe Device Central (again, whatever that is) 98.6MB
Adobe Help Center 2.4MB
Adobe Help Viewer 5.07MB

…….and by comparison, in Windows "Add or Remove" – 38MB – Um?
