Help! I use PS CS2 v 9.0.2 on a PC with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2, Pentium 4, 3 GHz with 1.75 GB RAM. I have never experienced problems with PS in working with any file types/sizes before this.

However, now, with a file open (regardless of file type), many of my tools are not functioning properly. For instance, I just attempted to use ANY of my filters. The dialogue box appears so that I should be able to use them, but there is no image in the dialogue box window and changes are not actually made to the image. I have closed and re-opened the file, the program and have rebooted the computer numerous times to no avail.

Can anyone give me some assistance in figuring this out?

Thanks!

Susan

Did you try trashing/resetting Preferences as per the FAQs?

Yes, did not help. Sorry I didn’t include that in my initial post. Another oddity with this is that one of the times I re-opened the program, I clicked on "file" and everything was grayed out. I could not select anything.

Any recent hardware / software changes?

You’ve rebooted to clear memory, etc.?

No changes at all and yes, I’ve rebooted twice. This one baffles me.

You’re familiar with a large number of tools, especially filters, being greyed out if your file has 16-bit color depth because the tools only function on 8-bit files?

Have you checked the bit depth just to confirm that the file is 8-bit and that the tools will function?

The tools in the toolbox should work, regardless of bit depth. Filters won’t, but if the tools are messed up it’s something else.

What exactly is not working?

Art and Ed,

The file is 8-bit, and yes, I know that many tools do not function on 16-bit images.

After spending nearly two hours at this yesterday, I gave up and went home. This morning, after NOTHING being done to the computer after I left, it is working just fine. However, I have no hope that this problem will not recur.

When it does, I will put together a specific list of those items that do not work and return for more help!

Thanks to you both!
