First off, apologies if this has already been asked and answered somewhere but I am unable to find anything on the subject even in the knowledge search.

In CS3 when I click on ‘Help’ it brings up ‘Adobe Help Viewer’ and in the context window are shown Bridge/Version Cue, Device Central and Photoshop CS3.

In CS2 when I click on’Help’ it brings up ‘Adobe Help Centre’ and in the context window are shown Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0

Why in CS3 does it not list the other Adobe applications and why in CS2 does it not make a reference to CS3. Are the ‘Help Viewer’ and ‘Help Centre’ not inter-related?

I recall following first installing CS2 a while back now that I had trouble with the Help menu and this was cured by download and installing the file Photoshop_9.0_en_us.zip Could what I am experiencing be a similar problem?

Am I to assume we’ve all got by without resort to ‘Help’ at this time?

no, you can’t assume that. 🙂

help works fine for me (and always has) in cs2 and now in cs3.

but you CAN assume that no one who knows the answer to your questions has read this thread.

Thanks. Oh I don’t have a problem with Help itself – that works just fine. It’s just that not all the Adobe applications are shown in the drop-down list in the CS3 Help file as is the case in CS2 and I wonder why that is.

CS2 and CS3 use different help systems installed in different paths; thus the different names. You can’t view CS2 help from the CS3 help system and vice versa, at least as installed. It may be possible with some file copying — or you may mess up both systems.

Yes I guess you’re right. I do wonder sometimes why Adobe insist on ‘fixing’ something when it aint broke. Being able to click on Help in either CS2, Elements 4 or 5 and be able to type in a question relevant to either of those applications was an innovative and useful concept. In CS3 Adobe seem to have given up on this idea for what seems to be no good reason.

Not part of my original post but related – I notice this also applies to the Adobe Updater. When I have CS2 open and choose ‘Update’ – the updater searches for updates to all CS2 applications and both versions of Elements – but not CS3. In CS3 when choosing check for updates from the menu it only checks CS3 applications. This means of course that with multiple Adobe applications installed one has to go into each application to check for updates. It’s so darn flustrating when something works just fine and one has got used to it that they then change it, and for the worse to boot.

I doubt you will be finding any further updates for CS2 or Elements 4, since Adobe typically only issues updates for the current version.

Yup – fully agree. I have posted in the Feature Requests forum regarding the ‘Help’ matter. Thanks.
