This is a scan drawing saved as TIFF Bitmap, and I’m getting the Pixel Aspect ratio message in photoshop. I know you can change it to square and it can be fixed, but my god, this is one of the most annoying features photoshop has to offer. Microsoft Image Viewer that’s over 10 years old does not have this problem.

I’ve searched the forums, there doesn’t seem to be a way I can turn this off and/or default it to ‘Square’

Neither will it have the "problem" of colour management.

Your scanner probably delivers the bitmap with an aspect ratio change. I have seen All in one (with FAX) devices do that.

The aspect feature in Ps is not there to annoy you.

Is there a way to reset or change that??? We sent out hardcopies of plans to be scanned – now opening them in photoshop I have to turn off the pixel aspect ratio to view it correctly – yet now all of my brushes are ovals instead of rounds. The only way I get my brushes back to normal is to turn on the PAR. I need to be able to modify the image but need my regular brushes.

Any suggestions?!!

Thanks!

Change it to Square? I’ve never had changing the PAR change my tools or brushes. But I don’t turn off, I change to square. Once the files are scanned, it’s too late for any other method (I believe). Worth a shot maybe.

That worked 🙂 Have to remember the KISS ‘keep it simple stupid’ rule! I realize now that I kept changing the view and not the actual ratio. oops!

Thanks!
