I work with photoshop from version 4 every day. Every upgrade to new version only slow perfomance and working efficiency. More than 80% function do not support 2 cpu. CS3 version is more than double slower than cs or cs2 in opening files. Some people tell me that problem is in network printers. WTF!!!
Adobe must optimize software product for new hardware, instead adding tons and tons 1/2 applicable function. RAM efficiency is = 0.000!!! Photoshop non-stop work with hdd scratch even is more than 80% free ram memory.

I realy check for new software for image working.

Photoshop is not best image editor anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ps CS3 is faster for me on both desktop and laptop computers.

BTW, if you run out of exclamation marks, I’d be happy to mail you a bunch.

Every upgrade to new version only slow performance…

As Rob says, CS3 is actually faster than previous versions. Try tuning up your system and optimising scratch and VM. the following links relate to CS2 but still hold good for CS3.

I work with photoshop from version 3.5 every day. Have jumped from 4 to 8, specially missing 5,6 and 7. CS3 is the best for now, but has awfully nightmarish and bugful installation procedure…

Apparently you have a dog of a system. CS3 is considerably faster on my Core2 Duo system than CS2 ever was.

We have dell precission 690 workstation dual xeon 3.0ghz with 2gb ram…sorry, but this is strong configuration…

Simple, photoshop is not good optimized software!!!!!!!
For same operation like before 10 years you need same amount time…This is not good…

same here. xp pro sp2, core2duo 6600.

simple. problem is on your machine. everyone else seems to agree that cs3 is way more responsive (if currently buggier) than cs2 or cs.

I think Robert may be referring to your system software configuration.

I have the same machine and CS3 is faster than any previous version.

Initially I observed CS3 as being approximately 30-35% faster than CS2, on my 3.6GHz Core 2 Extreme system with 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM. That was an exaggeration of the perfomance gain however, as the test was using the Radial Blur benchmark which primarily stresses the CPU. Using a the RetouchArtists Pro Benchmark, which exercises a wider range of PS functions and also tasks the memory by operating on a 500MB file, I found the performance gains with CS3 were much smaller…maybe 5-10% gains on average. I find that a more typical behavior, as each version of Photoshop is in fact more optimized than its predecessor, and oftentimes taking advantage of whatever is the latest set of CPU architecture enhancments.

There are of course new features introduced as well, which may in and of themselves potentially affect overall performance, sometimes for how they alone task the hardware. Beyond that are the other considerations such as what background tasks are running, and most notably any utilities (Norton software has been known in the past to really impact PS performance, particular the Norton Recycle Bin.).

I agree with everyone else here Kajzica, that while you may have a good strong system, there must be other problems wrong with it if you are finding PS performance to be worsening with each successive upgrade.

Daryl

Sounds like a buggy Corel product might be just what is needed to solve his problems. 🙂 Seriously, though. . . I find CS3 to be noticably faster and more responsive than prior versions.

I agree with Rob. I find that CS3 is considerable faster than CS2 — for instance, the start process takes about one fourth the time from double clicking the icon to operational. I use Bridge to open images but even so it is, for all practical purposes, instantly.

If you are having slow operating issues, I would, first, look somewwhere other than Photoshop. Suggestions would be: Amount of RAM, Anti-Virus running in background, Indexing, Firewall, or even memory location conflicts. Of course, the list of "usual suspects" is quite long and may even require using System Configuration (MSConfig.exe) to shut down each running application one at a time until you catch the culprit. In fact, why don’t you use MSConfig to turn off all Startup programs and all (non-microsoft) Services and then see if the speed of Photoshop improves — this would eliminate the system as the problem.

Stop whining.

Clearly there is a hardware issue somewhere. The keyboard is emitting far too many exclamation marks.
