Video woes

I have a shiny new Dell 9200 with (4 gigs, running XP Pro) and a 30-inch Dell 3007WFP monitor being driven with a dual-DVI nVidia 7950 GT video card. I also have a 15-inch secondary monitor hooked up and running off an nVidia GeForce4 MX 4000 card (I don’t need much from it). Unfortunately, I’m having serious problems with video redraw with both Photoshop and Illustrator. Illustrator is behaving better after I ratcheted down video acceleration a notch, but Photoshop is messing up no matter how much I throttle down the acceleration. Symptoms include: white blocks where menus should be, cursor lock ups, and jerky movement when dragging windows. For once, I’m not blaming Adobe for the problems and believe they’re caused by nVidia’s driver. It’s pretty obvious I’m going to have to get a different card and the question I have is whether anyone has a similar setup with a 30-inch monitor that works properly and if so, what video card are you using?

I’m running with an XFX GeForce 7600GT PCI-e card, driving a 24" BenQ monitor via DVI and 19" Iiyama CRT via a DVI/VGA adapter, with no problems under CS2 or CS3, whether WinXP or WinVista. The GeForce driver I’m using is 93.71 for Windows XP and 100.65 for Vista.

Thanks for the info. My current card is EVGA. I think it must have something to do with it being dual DVI. There are two DVI ports on it, but the 30" monitor uses the entire card; i.e., it won’t drive two monitors when a 30" is hooked up to it. I haven’t had any problems with other applications, just Photoshop and Illustrator.

Update –

I thought I’d at least partly solved the video problem by removing the second video card altogether. Illustrator is behaving much better, but not perfect, and Photoshop is still messing up, though not as quickly. The screen redraw problems happen the most when minimizing/maximizing the application windows. Parts of the screen just don’t redraw and the menus and palettes are either white or disappear. Is anyone successfully using a 30" Dell 3007WFP with CS3?
