I am using CS3 on a dual xeon XP Pro workstation having 4GB physical ram with the /3GB and can’t seem to get HDR to work properly on scanned images. The problem doesn’t seem to be related to file size or bit depth as I have tried reducing the files down to 640×480 and 8 bit. There must be some info missing on scanned images that would be present on digicam images. Any ideas?

Further investigation shows that the problem is with the length of the filenames. Scanned images do not have exposure info imbedded in them. In the normal course of events Photoshop brings up a dialog box that allows the user to specify the exposure info or ev settings manually. If the filenames are 59 characters or less this operation works fine, but if the filenames are 60 characters or longer the manual exposure dialog box fails to appear, a fatal error occurs and Photoshop shuts down. The simple work around seems to be keeping the filenames of scanned images to 59 characters or shorter.
