I’m finding that when CS3 Bridge is up and running and you connect an external drive to your PC, Bridge does not see it – i.e. it does not appear in the folders section. You have to close down PS/Bridge and start it up again for it to see the drive. CS2 Bridge did not have this problem. The drive always appeared.

Anyone else had this problem and is there a fix?

I use a Maxtor external drive connected through USB2 and don’t have any problems. Just press F5 to refresh your drive list – can you see the drive in My Computer?

Yes you can see it in My Computer, and no, doing F5 does not make it appear. You have to close down Bridge and relaunch it. Sometimes you have to do the same with PS.

Calvert, I saw what you describe just the other day. Had to restart PS CS3 and Bridge to see an external USB drive that I had turned on during a session. It’s something that I rarely do, though, so I hadn’t noticed if that behavior was different than CS2.

I have the same problem with CS2 on a Win XP Pro machine. If I turn on my external hard drive after Bridge is running, Bridge won’t see it. Windows will, but Bridge does not. The only way to get Bridge to see it is to close Bridge and reopen it. (I have not tried to open a file through PS, so I can’t say whether PS sees the drive under these circumstances.)

Also, on my system at least (Win XP Home), CS3 Bridge won’t find drives on other machines on my network. I don’t need to do it often, so I don’t know whether it worked in CS2, but nevertheless it’s surprising and annoying that it doesn’t work.

I just noticed the same problem today on a WinXP sp2 machine. I plugged in a thumb drive and bridge didn’t automatically see it. I had better luck than Calvert had in that all I had to do was click the F5 key to update. It took a few seconds but it worked for me. These little problems drive me nuts but I still enjoy the new CS3.

Actually I need to retract my statement in post 5 that Bridge doesn’t see network drives – it does! Just the same as in CS2…
