I have a PSD. Most likely made with Photoshop CS, I tried opening it in Photoshop CS3 first.

"Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."

So I moved back to Photoshop CS2 and tried opening it. I got the same "not compatible with this version" error message. So as a last resort I opened to Photoshop CS. "Not compatible with this version" error message again.

Any troubleshooting suggestions since none of the three versions are able to open it? I KNOW its a Photoshop file and it was never made in 7.0 or earlier.

Could be a bad file. Check to see if it will open in Irfanview.

I think it was a bad file.

I was concerned because of the switch to CS3. Some of my templates are in PSD format (smaller files size is helpful) and if this happens to them I will lose them as I don’t have backups. Perhaps I shall go back them up right now…

If it’s not a CMYK file try opening it with ImageReady you may be able to save it.

Maybe it’s not a Photoshop format file, but a TIFF or, more likely, a JPEG that has had the extension set manually to ".PSD". Try File > Open As with "TIFF", "JPEG", etc. as the type and see if it opens.

You could also see if my PSD recovery plugin <http://telegraphics.com.au/sw/#psdrecover> will look at it.

I’m going nuts trying to figure this out. We’re having this issue on more than one machine here and can’t rely on a recovery plug-in (which does work). When you have a file with 30 layers, the recovery process is killing time a designer could be using for paid work.

Why is there no fix from Adobe on this????? I’m searching everywhere and not finding ONE good solution!

Did you try imageready? or is the file CMYK?

what version are you talking about?

how big is the file?

are you sure the file has the correct extension?

Was it saved over a network?

can you zip it and send it to me?

I’ll have one of the designers try the ImageReady. The files WERE opened/saved over network, so I think that’s our problem. The designers have been told NOT to do that, so this might be an aggravating reminder. I can’t send you the image, as they’re proprietary client files.

Files are 500MG or larger. All files created in CS3 and all files are CMYK.
