I shot some photos is RAW with Canon camera and downloaded them with Digital Photo Professional. My trial version of PS CS3, using File/Open doesn’t show thumbnails of these pics, but it shows the files and if I click on them it opens the picture.

Reading the help file, I figured I might need Camera Raw plugin so I went to Adobe site and downloaded Camera Raw and extracted it. That gave two files- Adobe DNG Converter.exe and Camera Raw.8bi. What am I suppossed to do with them to see my pics in thumbnail so I can know which one I want to select?

First, consult the installation instructions for Camera Raw. It’s on the download page:

Second, make sure you install ACR 4.0 (see link above).

Third, fire up Bridge and never use File/Open again.

(However, when I do use File/Open I can see the thumbnails of my CR2 files. Are you in OS Dialog or Adobe Dialog mode?)

For those of us who aren’t big Bridge fans and would prefer to see thumbnails in the OS, visit the Microsoft photo area and download the RAW file add-in for your OS (I assume they have something for Vista, but I’ve only used the XP version).

And bear in mind that whatever Microsoft does to RAW files won’t necessarily mesh well with how Adobe handles them.
