I have been trying for 2 days to install Photoshop CS3 on my twin processor Intel Pentium 3.4 Ghz (each processor) computer with 1 GB RAM and in excess of 120 GB free space on the ‘C’ Disk running Windows Vista Ultimate without success.
I have twice installed all the components but failed to install Photoshop CS3, although mostly I fail to install one or more components as well as Photoshop CS3.
I have tried everything I know, short of a clean install of Windows Ultimate. I have disabled all other programs using the tried and trusted msconfig.exe. I have disabled my virus checker and firewall. Still no joy and I am now at my wits end about what else I can do to install Photoshop CS3.
Any suggestions?
David

David,

There has been so much discussion in the forum of installation problems that I’ve lost track of what has and hasn’t been stated already, so I’ll just throw in my 2 cents worth here.

First, I had no problems installing to my 3.6GHz Core 2 Extreme under either Windows XP or Vista Ultimate. Why? Lucky I guess. Similarly, upon installing it to my 2.13 GHz Pentium M laptop, the installation was a bit slower but still successful. I didn’t time how long the installations took, but I’d guess 15 minutes or less.

HOWEVER, given all I’ve read here, I was curious to try installation PS CS3 on a 3.4GHz P4 system I have access to at a work, just to see how it would behave. Once more, PS CS3 installed without a problem save for one….the installation took at least 45 minutes to complete, perhaps even closer to an hour. Such a long installation time is absurd and much longer than should be observed for any application. Regardless, given that you do not state the nature of your failed installation, this does raise a question to me of did the installation actually finish yet just not successfully install? Or, did you cancel the installation because it was seemingly not progressing after a reasonable period of time? As you mention "all the components", I’m also guessing you were perhaps installaing a CS3 suite and not just a standalone copy of PS CS3? If so, then my observations are perhaps moot.

In other words, at least from a PS-only perspective, if anyone deems their PS CS3 installation to have failed because it appears to be stuck after a reasonable period of time, patience may prove the installation successful if you’re willing to wait a lot longer than you should.

Regards,

Daryl

Dave, you are right there are many threads and solutions but so far none has been successful. Daryl, you were obviously lucky. It is not a question of time, buyt when it finishes a screen appears saying the installation has failed. Always Photoshop has failed, and sometimes one or more components have failed.
What an incredibly retrograde installation package Adobe uses with no indication of where or why a failure has occurred!
