I crashed a computer but have all the data from the old hard drive. I was wondering if all the copyright actions I created were stored in a file where I can copy them to my new system?

They might be in the Actions Palette.psp (Preferences) file, in Documents and Settings. But you’ll have to restore ALL the actions if it’s there.

If you do recover them, next time Save them from the palette flyout as sets (.atn files)and back them up.

Mine, for Photoshop CS is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings\Actions Palette.psp

This would have been helpful if I knew which folder to open. I had to have all my data saved to an external hard drive. Now I am working on copying the right files to my computer so I can function the way I used to. I dont know how I can possibly open "photoshop" on the hard drive in order to save them to a specified locatio or save as a set.

Is Photoshop installed on the computer? It’s not gonna work unless you install Photoshop. Then the correct folder will be created in Documents and Settings and you can Paste the .psp file into it.

Then, when you open Photoshop the Actions should be in the Actions Palette and from there you can Save sets.

Thank you, I have already don’t that. What I don’t have are the copyright actions I created myself. That’s why I am asking for the complete path where they are stored when you create them so I can cut and paste….I thought I copied all the action files but I am not educated enough to know where all the data goes when I close the program.

Every action should be stored in that preference file, all together, but you need them to be in Photoshop in the Actions palette in order to break them out. That’s where they are stored when you close the program.

If they don’t appear in the palette after bringing in the old prefs file they are probably lost.

Can you please tell me the path file for this "prefs" file?

you may not see it if you don’t have hidden files set to "show".

go into windows explorer. go to

tools> folder options> view and make sure you have the radio button for ‘hidden files and folders" set to "Show hidden files and folders".

also make sure you uncheck ‘hide extensions for known file types’ and ‘hide protected operating system files’.

caution, unchecking those boxes allows you to see files that you should be careful with. you need to do it in order to get into the hidden folder "C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_XP_LOGIN_NAME\Application Data\" and the folders below it, where the preferences files live.

also note that YOUR_XP_LOGIN_NAME (or in ed’s example path "Owner" will be different on your machine. that will reflect your xp logon name, whatever that is (administrator, or carin or whatever).

finally note that the path changes slightly with version.

what version of photoshop was it that crashed. ed gave an example path for photoshop cs (version 8 ). cs2 would be version 9. version 7 would have a 7.0 in the path, etc.

Nevermind, I read post one and tried to follow it and asked in my next post to clarify exactly where they might be because I copied and pasted what I thought was what he was meaning and and it didnt work…I am not here to get yelled at. I was looking for something like c:\documentsandsettings/user/…..
Thank you all for trying.
