Monitor Question in CS3

I have a new Dell 20" wide screen monitor. When I open up a picture in CS3, it almost looks as if the picture is stretched (abnormally). Does anyone else notice this problem on wide screen monitors and is it correctable?

All LCD monitors MUST be run at their native resolution. In the case your 20" widescreen that’s 1680×1050.
