CS2 type tool problem

Greetings,
The type tool does not display any characters that are typed in. Instead only a single dot appears on the image. A layer is added to the layers pallete indicating the type tool is in use and when you click on the checkmark to accept, the dot disappears and the characters appear as the layer title but no characters on the image. I have tried several different fonts, font sizes, colors and image sizes.
Any ideas?

Try resetting your Type Tool.
