I’m working with 2 monitors and I want to place only the Tools palette and the actual psd file on one monitor. All my palettes go on the other monitor. But when I try to move the horizontal panels that are located at the top of the screen, they stay horizontal wherever I place them. Is it possible to change these to vertical?

Yeah, I definitely wasn’t expecting text to be displayed vertically, that’d be atrocious. 🙂 Here’s an example of what I’d expect, a la Photoshop’s palette design:
Buko, I believe you’re saying that if you placed the panel onto a separate monitor you’d rather it stay horizontal?
Maybe it’s my setup since all my palettes are on my MacBook on the left and the tools palette and psd file are on the external monitor on the right. Those horizontal panels just seem a little unwieldy to me.
Sure, we’ve all got our preferences. As I mentioned in my original post, I just wanted to try placing the bars on the same screen as the rest of my palettes and was wondering if the bars would resize into a better form factor than just horizontal.
As for working on a MacBook with the limited Monitor well good luck with that.
Why is this? I keep most of my palettes on the MacBook LCD so I feel like there’s plenty of space on my external monitor for the actual editing. It’s a 22" Samsung that provides 1680×1050 res.
Wade, thanks for the link! I’ll definitely send in the suggestion.
Ramon, thanks for correcting me on the terminology. Do you refer to the Character, Layers, and other windows as "panels"? I always thought those were called "palettes".
Buko may not be aware that working on a laptop with photoshop recently became practical with some of the laptops supporting up to 32gb of memory 8 currently for the Mac but that might shortly change to 16GB with two internal hard drives and to high powered graphics cards.
A 17 inch monitor is not the best size to work with photoshop but it is still practical depending on your method of working and why the question is being ask and with the new laptop capabilities it makes this suggestion a practical consideration and a good feature request it makes docking the panels to one side a more valuable feature as well.
If at some point they can make the 20 inch laptops lighter like the weight of the 17 inch Mac Book Pro then it will even be more practical use photoshop and one could always commandeer an extra monitor at a clients office or perhaps one day some of the airlines will allow the users to use their screens so you can put your panels on them.
So I think the OT has a very valid approach and probably an excellent feature request.
The vertical angle of view has not nearly been addressed in a manner approximating the modest improvements in tackling the horizontal angle of view. I had occasion to see a MacBook Pro in action at the local Fry’s a few hours ago.
