Hi all,

I’m creating actions that will put borders around my images as well as adding text. The files I’m working with are 9.6 x 14.4 inches, and 14.4 x 9.438 inches. I go through the creation of the actions, but when I press the ‘Fit Screen’ button to look at them, not all the border shows up – 2 or 3 sides only show. This is most annoying as i’m not sure if the border will show up fully on the images when I put them on the web. Can anyone help/advise?

What do the actions do specifically? How are you creating the borders?

Ed,

Thanks for replying.

The Actions are to put a black border 6mm (1/4 inch) from the edge, all around the photo. I also add the text – date, my name and discription of the scene. I have already made the Action I require for the 9.6 x 14.4 inch photos, and it showed all the border in Photoshop, but the spce between the border and photo was not quite correct so I deleted it and started a new Action. Now all the border won’t show in Photoshop, although it does in Fax and Picture viewer.

I create the border Action by firstly pressinf D to set the foreground/backgroung colours to the defaults, then I press Control-A to put a selection around the whole photo. With this in place I then press Control-Shift-J to cut the photo from the Background layer and put it on its own seperate layer. Then I add more white canvas by using Control-Alt-C, and I turn on the Relative checkbox, choose white as the canvas extension colour, and enter 3 inches for both width and height. Once done, I repeat the command Control-Alt-C but this time I enter 1 inch for the height and click the top centre grid in the Anchor grid so that this space is added below the photo.

I then create a new layer above the first one I created (see above), with this new layer active I press Control and click on the icon of the first one I created. This puts a selection around the photo in the first layer I created, and then I go to Edit/Stroke and click on Center Location and Grey for the colour with 1 pixel as the size. This puts a thin grey stroke around the photo. I then press M to bring up the Rectangular Marquee tool and draw a line 6mm (1/4 inch) from the edge of my photo. I then press D again to set Foreground to Black, and once again go to Edit/Stroke and enter 2 pixels for width, Location to Centre and click OK. This sets a black Stroke (border) around the photo. I then press Control-D to deselect, stop the Action recording.

Once done I press the ‘Fit Screen’ button, and the damned border only shows on 3 sides. However, if I press ‘Print Size’ I can scroll across/up/down and see the border fully. I know it’s there, but it just doesn’t show fully…

If it’s save as a jpg or a gif just open it in a browser. If it looks okay, that is how it will look on the web.

You might consider trashing/resetting you Photoshop Preferences. It may be a glitch in your copy of PS.

Phil. The borders are there. They will print okay. It’s just that by using "fit screen" you are most likely viewing the image at some fractional display magnification. Zoom to 100% (or even 50%) and you see the borders are there.
