Is there a way to find out what is the center of an image?

I am using Adobe PhotoShop CS to edit some vacation pictures. I would like to have the pictures centered (same amount of landmark to the left and right).

Currently, I am just using View | Show | Grid (aka Ctrl+’), and counting the blocks. However, this is not very precise. I would just like some sort of target showing me the center of the image so that I check my accuracy.

I appreciate any advice, thanks in advance 🙂

CTRL + A, CTRL + T.

You’ll see a little target in the center of the layer.

Have you considered using the "rule of thirds"? The most harmonious composition is achieved by having the focal point placed one third in from the right or left and one third in from the top or bottom.

Thanks!! Ctrl+T is great, and so are the horizontal/vertical guides 🙂 Thanks for the tip, I will read up on the "rule of thirds" also.

Cropping is a key component of image composition. Indeed, some say crop in camera.

And with every rule, violation of those rules is your artistic prerogative! With the appropriate image having the focus smack dab in the middle can have great dramatic effect.

Jessica, crop with critical purpose — do not settle on one interpretation and compare crops. Toss the unnecessary detail — focus on the blazing eyes of that statue, we do not need the whole head to toe view. And that horizon line …
