What CS2 trial? Adobe offers a download of CS3 that can be evaluated for 30 days, after which a valid licence is required. Is your "CS2 trial" on CD or a download?

From what site? The only download you will get from Adobe is the CS3 trial.
It was from the Adobe site. I downloaded it before the cs3 download was avalible.
In that case I would suggest you download the CS3 trial and try the install again.
I am not sure Adobe would even license a CS2 trial so what would be the point of installing it?

I’m not sure what you mean?
What I mean is that if you are installing Photoshop CS2 with the intent of buying it after a successful trial then Adobe may not sell licences to unlock the CS2 trial. (You will have to contact Adobe to confirm that.)
The current version is CS3 so you might as well trial that version.
Also, if your intent is to buy Photoshop are you upgrading from a previous version? V7 is the oldest version eligible for an upgrade to CS3.
