Web & Flash designs – Photoshop or Fireworks?

For years, I have used Fireworks to create all of my web & Flash designs. I would use Photoshop to do photo editing, montage, etc, but all layout was done in Fireworks.

Now, with the slick integration between Photoshop and Flash, it seems Photoshop is being positioned as the tool to use for layout. Does anyone have experience with using both Fireworks & Photoshop for layout? Can you give me the pros/cons on each? My biggest reason for staying with Fireworks all these years is that I like the ‘object’ focused UI, where each thing in the layout is a distinct object I can easily click on to select (like it is in Illustrator or InDesign), and the fact that Fireworks has multiple frames so I can quickly knock through variations.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer Fireworks to Photoshop for creating mock ups of web pages. I build the actual pages in HTML.

I think that the (apparent) victory of Fireworks over ImageReady means that it will continue to be the web imaging tool from Adobe. I note that it is included in the web suite _instead of_ Photoshop.

I do use PS when I need the power it offers, but most of that is overkill for web work.

Fireworks is soooo lame…I want to be able to do remote rollovers and nested tabled slices…They can pry ImageReady out of my cold dead hands (yes…I still have LiveMotion loaded on my machine too…)

What’s weird is that I can image map in Illustrator, but I can’t in Photoshop…

I dunno about nested slices, but Fireworks has been able to do remote rollovers automatically since version 2 or 3.

SO Spill…it doesn’t work like ImageReady and I have googled it but the tutorials I’ve seen so far don’t give me good results!

Nothing works like IR … another reason why I prefer FW. I don’t have FW on my machine here, but I’ll give you the steps when I get home.
