I have been using Photoshop 7 for a number of years without a problem, after upgrading Adobe Reader to version 8, Photoshop will no longer start up. I get two error messages; "Can’t find Workspace folder" and "Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked. Use the ‘Properties’ command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file." but it doesn’t say which file. I have tried removing both PS7 and Reader8 then re-installing PS7 with no luck. Any help would be appreciated,

Try holding down Ctrl-Alt-Shift while starting up. When you get a dialog asking if you want to reset Photoshop to Defaults click yes. Then see if it starts up.

Thank you Ed, this worked first time around! Saved me the cost of an upgrade.

Good. That’s called Trashing or Resetting Preferences and is a good thing to try when something goes wrong unexpectedly. Reinstalling often doesn’t work because the old corrupted Preferences file is still in use.
