I’ve used an istock jpeg color picture, converted it to black and white using the mode change to grayscale, adjust levels if necessary, then save as a psd. Place into InDesign, saved as a PDF 1Xa and sent to a Konica C500 color printer/copier. All of the midtones drop out. Has this happened to anyone else…is it in the program or is it in the copier?

What happens if you save it as a tif before you convert to PDF? It may be in your conversion settings.
