Hi all,

following problem: In Windows XP are installed two older graphical programs: ACDSee 8 and Photoshop 7. If the view an explorerwindow (windows explorer, not IE) is switched to thumbnail-view (dont know if its translated correctly, here is a german XP, where this is "Miniaturansicht"), all pictures (*.jpg, *.bmp, *.tif and so on) are displayed correctly as a miniature except PSD-Files. PSD-Files are displayed either as a ACDSee-symbol instead a miniature (when assigned to ACDSee) or if they assigned to Photoshop they are crippled. Crippled means that the miniature inside is only half as large as it would have room and it has a black bar at one side. It is hard to explain for me, so i will make some little "drawing":

normal thumbnail:

+————–+
|+————+|
|| ||
|| ||
|| ||
|| ||
|+————+|
+————–+

crippled thumbnail:

+————–+
| |
| +—–++ |
| | || |
| | || |
| +—–++ |
| |
+————–+

This behaviour is new, some weeks ago all thumbnails have had the same size, no matter if the show JPG or PSD-Files. I dont know what happened since this time (its not my PC), but the owner says that he hasnt installed or reconfigured anything.

Any help is highly appreciated, thanks in advance, Jens

Jens,

The thumbnail display of PSD files in Windows Explorer relied on the file, Psicon.dll. This dll was removed from later releases of Photoshop as it caused problems.
Search your PC for this file, it could either be missing or corrupt. Google lists numerous sites to download this file.

Hi,

this hint was great! After googling i found the dll and also some hints regarding registry-entry and now it runs like before.

Thank you…
