I have a document that is exactly A4 size (210mmx297mm). I have a cicle that is 4cm in diameter and the top edge starts at 10cm from the top of the page and left edge starts at 10cm from the left of the page.

I want these exact measurements to be reflected when I come to print it (it’s actually a DVD/CD label onto DVD printed labels).

Firstly, when I go to print with preview it automatically has ‘Center Image’ ticked, and i can see that top is greyed out at Top:-0.71 and Left:-0.34. I clearly don’t want any movement of the image as I want it exactly so I untick the ‘Center Image’ and set top and left to be 0.

When i come to print the page the circle is actually 1.7cm higher than it should be on the page and has been shifted to the right by 4mm. Unless i start manually fudging the image on the screen or fiddle with the positioning in the print preview screen I can’t get it to print exactly. Anyone know what I’m doing wrong here? The printer is HP OfficeJet G55.

I’d place the image in the right position on an A4 document and print that. Way easier than dealing with a print dialog box.

I assume you are using CS or CS2 based on the reference to print with preview. If your document is A4 sized and you are printing on A4 media, you need to make sure that it is centered and 100% in both the Photoshop print with preview screen and the printer driver. If you don’t make it centered, it will be printed referenced to the printer’s default margins. You will get a dialog saying you are printing beyond the printable area; say OK. Do not set your printer to "borderless," because this causes the printer to upsize your image by a few percent to bleed over the edges, to ensure there are no unprinted margins.

If you are using CS3, good luck.
