Can Photoshop CS2 still be purchased?

I currently have one license of PS CS1 and I have it running on my office and home PCs as permitted in the agreement. Unfortunately, I need a third. I’m about to buy a tablet PC so I can use it in other places in my home.

The problem is, I can’t really justify spending another $650 (a new 2nd license) to run it from a third location. And I was told I could virtual desktop into my PC from my tablet, but I’m assuming it would run really, really slow.

I don’t believe they allow you to purchase additional licenses for lesser amounts, so I was wondering if I could get CS2 for much cheaper somewhere. Or is there some other option I’m not thinking of, or do I just need to pony up the full amount?

Thanks

Buy the upgrade to CS3 and install it on all three machines. You’ll need to deactivate one of the machines to activate it on the third.

This should keep you within the spirit of the EULA as long as you are the only person using those machines and only one will be used at a time.

Doesn’t it need to activate three times if I did that? I’d assume I’d get rejected the third time.

I read somewhere recently that if you are using old versions (such as my CS1) that Adobe isn’t rejecting any activations, which I think would mean that I’d be able to install it on the laptop with no problem.

Are either of these true?

Like I said, you’d need to deactivate one of the machines before activating the third.

"Like I said, you’d need to deactivate one of the machines before activating the third."

That’s what’s confusing me. I don’t know if you’re saying that if I install it on all threee machines, it’ll work on all three as long as I deactivate one of them, or are you saying I need to activate and deactivate every time I switch PCs?

Or are you saying something else entirely?

Bill you can install it on as many machines as you like. but you can only have Two(2) activations at any one time. So if you have 3 computers one of them must have a deactivated copy.

So, in other words, I’d have to get the new copy just to run a third copy :/

I’m trying to get a tablet that would act as my desktop so I can just use two still, but I’m having a hard time finding one that will play games as well. Man this is frustrating. Thx for the info.

No. Just install it on all three machines. Since you’re still on CS I can see why you’re confused. CS had no facility to transfer the activation.

CS2 introduced that feature to allow for this type of thing. It was placed in the help menu and called transfer activation. Some people must have found that confusing since in CS3 it been changed and is simply called deactivate.

So to summarize. Install on PC 1 and activate. Install on PC 2 and activate. Install on PC 3 but don’t activate.

When you need PC 3, open Photoshop on either PC 1 or PC 2 and choose help>deactivate. Open Photoshop on PC 3 and you’ll likely be prompted to activate. Do it. Photoshop will then be activated on PC 3 and either PC 2 or PC 1. Still two activation.

Does that help?

Activating and deactivating takes about 5 seconds with an internet connection.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. But just to be sure, are you telling me to keep CS1 or buy CS3 for this to work?

I didn’t realize it took only about 5 seconds. I thought it was more difficult than that.

Will I be able to activate/deactivate as often as I like in this manor?

Thakns a TON for the help.

Biff,

You need CS3. You can’t deactivate (transfer activation) in CS. You can transfer the activation as often as you want, but you have to have an internet connection for it to work.
