Lowering effect only opacity

hi ,
im using CS2 ,
when im lowiring the opacity of the layer effect , the actual layer losing its opacity as well, how can i lower the opacity of the effect only? (i thought its fill but it has no effect)

You do this in the Layer Effect dialog – double-click the layer effect in the layer palette.

did bit its effecting the layer itself , i want only the effect to lose its opacity

Not in the layers palette, in the Layer Effects dialog box. One of the first options for most effects is "opacity"

Or, if you like, you could put the layer effect on its own layer.

do you mean to explode the effects to layers?

It think explode is a bit extreme. Try "Create Layer" from the right-click menu.

But it’s not necessary. Just lower the Opacity on whichever part of effects you are wanting to affect. If yo lower the Opacity of a Drop Shadow, for instance, it should NOT affect a bevel or Gradient Fill.
