I have PS CS3 (not the whole suite and not Version Cue).

When I open a file (any file – I’ve tried a bunch) I get an error message box titled Photoshop.exe Fatal Application Exit.
"The specified module could not be found C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe…etc…VersionCue.DLL" click OK and get another error dialog "The instruction at 0x5ad71531 referenced memory at 0x00000014. The memory could not be "read". Then I click OK and Photoshop quits.

I have deleted my preferences, rebooted, same problem. If I try to creat a new file, it’s essentially the same (after I click OK in the File New dialog, the error appears).

I have never had version cue on my system. I did not have the CS3 beta (I did have CS2, CS, etc. but only CS2 is currently installed). The enable version cue check box in preferences is unchecked.

I did search here but didn’t see anything that looked like this problem. What do I need to do to get PS working?

My system is running XP Pro, SP2

Just to follow up, I called tech support this morning who had me uninstall, follow the instructions for manually removing the public beta of CS3 (even though I hadn’t installed it, they said the instructions would clean up all prior components), and then reinstall.

This appears to have worked just fine – I no longer have this problem.

In my case it’s likely that a system restore (necessitated by hard drive problems – not the system disk – that have since been fixed by replacing the disk) was the cause of the snafu.

I am still having this problem. I use MS Windows Vista. I was lead by Tech support with Adobe to shut down a bunch of startup apps in Windows and restart the system. I then did a full reinstall of everything in Adobe CS3 Design Premium. The only problem is with Photoshop as far as I can tell so far. I just get that error above,
"The specified module could not be found C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe…etc…VersionCue.DLL" click OK
So, I click OK and PS closes. This happens as soon as I try to open any type of image file.

I hope I’m not alone in finding this error.

Have you disabled Version Cue in the preferences and turned off the Version Cue startup script in Bridge?

I have this same problem with all my CS3 applications. They had been fine up until the point I tried to use the twain import for my Epson scanner. I’ve tried doing a repair install, I’ve tried completely uninstalling the whole suite and reinstalling it (a time consuming process) all to no avail.

Desperately need a fix for this?!

On the few ocassions that Photoshop will actually open I have tried to disable Version Cue in the preferences but the moment I click the OK button photoshop bombs with the Fatal Application Exit error.

Note that my Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3 programs still work ok, but they were installed separately as an upgrade from Premier Pro 2.0.

Try this, it worked for me:

Copy the three DLL’s from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS3\Client\3.0.0" into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS3\Client\3.1.0"

I have the same problem. I tried Master Collection. After uninstall, my PSCS3 is not able to start with above error massage. On other hand, MC uninstall have deleted/destroyed many files from Common Files folder and also Adobe Bridge files (so, I have no Adobe version Cue folders now, and no Bridge files (only 1 65Kb file)).
Please any suggestions?
