In illustrator if you convert to a symbol you can use a 3d effect that can render true 3d vector points. Bert monroy just did a video on it @ revision3.com what I want to do is take that 3d model open it in ps extended and be able to chage its orientation. Then with the new video featurs in extended create a simple 3d video and be able to tween my rotations. It seems like a no brainer to have that kind of interaction between the two programs. especially since that was adobes big boast that all the programs worked SEEMLESSLY together.
In this area it seems photoshop works better with 3dmax rather then illustrator. I really hope Im wrong.

No you cant do it like that. PS 3d capabilities woRk on TRUE 3d Models, Illustrator isn’t creating a 3d model, it is using 2d data to extrapolate a 3d image. More to the point as was said in the video the 2d text is still there, the effect only outputs flattened data that just looks 3d. it is in fact a bunch of 2d shapes (expand the effect to see what i mean).

The two tools do work seamlessly together, you just trying to get a 2d program to do somthing it’s not designed to do.

You could do what you want by creating the image in illy, save the file but dont close it.

place the file into Photoshop, copy that layer and rasterise it. Go back into Illy, alter the image and save it. Photoshop should then tell you the image has been updated. take the updated image, dup the layer and rasterise it. etc. This will build your layers with the changes which can then be animated as you wanted.
