Has anyone heard of this? I read today that a really basic version is coming out to compete with a Google application. Didn’t even know Google had one. Any truth to this?

There are NO free versions of Photoshop.

However, you may find a copy of Photoshop Elements bundled with a scanner purchase.

Otherwise…nope.

Yes, I did read about it, but as of yet, it’s not available. It’s supposed to be an online kinda thing. That is, you can access it online and use it there…..like a networked version.

Excerpt from the 3/1/2007 USA Today.

Hoping to get a jump on Google and other competitors, Adobe Systems plans to release a hosted version of its popular Photoshop image-editing application within six months, the company’s chief executive said on Tuesday.

Here is the article.

Adobe said in Feb 2007 that they plan to launch a web-based Photoshop-branded editor sometime in the next 6 months.

It seems that it’ll be aimed at the consumer market (think Photoshop Elements).

Precise timeframe? Costing (perhaps free)? Only Adobe knows for sure at the moment.

It’s not a bad idea when you think about it. Such a move would introduce new people to the delights of Photoshop photo editing and at the same time make the purchase of dodgy pirated versions far less attractive.

D’OH!

I sheepishly admit (and it should be obvious) that I didn’t read the body of the original message.

Still, I wouldn’t consider a web-based image manipulation app much competition for Photoshop. Might be good for some stuff, but I already have the software I need, and I don’t need to fuss and wait for a file to upload to a server before I can work with it.

I have a clear understanding now of what Free means. It’s akin to Buy 3 get 1 free. That’s not free, that’s a discount. So it is with the web hosted version coming out next month (are we sure?). Be intruded upon by any number of Ad-interlopers, & you can minimally edit your SNAPSHOTS. But that’s about it. They are going after that base of picture takers who will likely never buy Photoshop as a downloaded licensed application

And just to be clear, I am licensed to use CS2. I am not at all interested in free apps. I merely wanted to gauge the user knowledge & professional level of this forum. My conclusion? For the most part we are a community of professionals, there’s a few…………

So how many of us passed your trick quiz?

As I said: My conclusion? For the most part we are a community of professionals, there’s a few…………

Bluntly, the reason I am not interested in free apps is because I already use the full version & like most here, have no interest in a lesser featured app. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no mad rush to locate this free version. More intelligent responses as I expected.

But it doesn’t appear as if you were one of those tricked. You just wanted to make a point. Point well made & well taken. Touche’. No offense meant Dennis.

Lost me. I have no idea what that conclusion means. Or the point of this thread……

I concede I have mistakenly posted a thread which while allowing me to see what the community of PS forum members is made of, has offended some. For that I apologize. My conclusion is a good one; that the great majority of PS user to user forum members are why I am here, less concerned with bargains, more concerned with intelligent & well thought out answers.

John Waller & anyone else offended don’t be. Like all of us I have questions to ask, and answers to give, But I have spent time in forums, like I’m sure many of us have, which have been more about the politics of the game, as opposed to a dedicated forum on the genre’ of the subject at hand. This is what I like to avoid. Why didn’t I spend a few weeks just reading? I like cutting to the chase.

Now hopefully this will answer any questions that will come up and we can get on with the forum and the business it attmepts to solve. I will not respond to further inquiries. I meant no harm and if I have created any, please accept my apology.

Offended? Not at all.

Puzzled? Yes.

Just trying to find the basic point in the maze of meandering monologue 🙂

The gist seems to be that your original post had little to do with your ultimate, somewhat playful, intent.

That’s fine as long as I know where you’re coming from.

:’) – you’ll have to put a space between, those are two options of the same icon.

No, they don’t work everywhere. Go here for that (and follow Dave’s instructions )
