How to discern if PSD was saved with "Maximize Compatibility"?

How, without opening the file, is it possible to discern if the PSD was saved with the "Maximize Compatibility" switch turned on?

Barring that, after opening the file how does one discern if the PSD was saved with the "Maximize compatibility" switch enabled?

1: Other than the fact they load quicker in other apps (such as Bridge) I don’t think so.

2: Once a file is open in PS it is simply that – a Photoshop file. The composite "layer" is only present in the saved version on disk. The only reason for having "Maximize Compatibility" off would be to save disk space, which is much less of a consideration these days with huge storage being so cheap.

Yep, this much I knew (not meaning to sound ungrateful). But there has to be some file info somewhere that’s accessible outside of PS that says if a composite is included in the file. Or not??

Irfanview’s Thumbnail viewer, uses the composite layer to generate a Thumbnail (and the full size image), so that may work for you.
