I have Photoshop CS2 (full Windows version).

If I were to download the CS3 trial version from Adobe’s website, would I be able to buy the upgrade version through the trial software itself, or does this only allow for buying the full version through that route?

If you cannot, I suppose the only other alternative would be to delete the trial version and then buy the upgrade.

I did search both the FAQs and the forum, but couldn’t see this question had been asked.

If you have a prior version that is eligible for the upgrade, you can buy at the upgrade price. Using a free trial doesn’t get you the upgrade. Why would Adobe give you a discount of hundreds of dollars just because you used a free trial version?

Oops. Yes, if you have the full version of CS2, you can get the upgrade to CS3 or CS3 Extended at the upgrade price. It doesn’t matter if you have used the trial version. In fact, if you buy the upgrade, you can just enter your serial number to turn the installed trial into an installed working full version (the serial number will determine whether it becomes the regular or extended version). There are some additional resources in the paid version that aren’t included in the free trial. These are mostly in the goodies folder of the disk or the unpacked download. If you buy the upgrade as a download from Adobe, there will be two files; one is the same as the trial, and the other is extra stuff — the latter one will contain all the things not in the trial version.

Thanks, Michael and Chris for your help on this. This has given me the confidence to download the free trial, which I’m just about to do.

Best wishes to all from England,

David
