Hi there,

Bit of a stupid newbie question, but a frustrating one as I cannot find the answer.

Running CS2 on WinXP.

I have created a photoshop document (6.3" x 4.3" x 300dpi) and it looks fine and prints correctly.

However, I see an odd problem when I save the file as a pdf.

When saving as a pdf file, the file properties when viewed on Acrobat 8 saw the document size is 2.48" x 1.71"

No matter what combination of settings I try I cannot change this.

Does any one have any idea as to how I should maintain the document size between photoshop and pdf?

Thanks

Trevor

Look again. Your PS document is actually in centimeters.

Unfortunately not. The first thing I checked was that I was using the correct dimensions.

Any other ideas?

Something’s wrong. Do the math.

The conversion from cm to inches yields exactly what you have.

If you want to post the file I’ll take a look here to see what it shows.

6.3 centimeters = 2.48031496 inches. Now that’s too much of a coincidence!

And you can change Acrobat to show the dimensions in cm which will reverse it.

If Trevor is actually seeing inches in the measurement then something is seriously wrong.

Another suggestion…check the actual pixel dimensions. If you really have inches it would show as 1890×1290

Hi Guys,

I can see where you get that from!

Just to clarify. I originally set the canvas size as 11cm x 16cm x 300dpi

I simply convered to inches to compare the photoshop dimensions with those specified in the pdf doc – sorry about that.

I have had a look in the settings again, but I cannot see what it is I have done wrong.

Here is a flattened version of the file <http://www.click.co.uk/test.psd> – I would appreaciate it if some one told me where the problem is.

Thanks

This is the pdf document I generate from CS2: <http://www.click.co.uk/test.pdf>

Like I said I have tried changing a number of options for saving to a pdf file, but with no luck.

Trevor. Your image is 4.331 inches by 6.299 inches, but the resolution is set to 300 pixels/cm

True. I set the image size to 11cm x 16cm at 300 pixels/cm – (Alt+Ctrl+i)

I can see where it is going wrong, ie when converting to pdf, photoshop thinks the image size is in pixels/INCH.

BUT when I create a new image I specified everything in CM and I still get the same problem!

Is there a setting somewhere to fix the output dpi to CM and not INCHES?

If you have a 15 gallon fuel tank and you ask the garage attendent to dispense in Litres you could end up with an overflow!!

Keep to one or the other. Printers know and love 300 ppi as their standard.

Set your resolution to this and specify the "size" in inches. That way you won’t go far wrong.

Thanks for you help Chris,

Just as I thought – I was being (more than) a bit stupid.

I will stick to inches from now on!
