I’m using CS3 Extended. I’ve scanned in a photo as a JPG and saved it as a PS file (RGB, 8 bits per channel). I’ve copied the background to form a new layer. Any attempt at dodging, blurring, cloning, painting, fails to work. The paint bucket, pen, and eyedropper tools however do.

I’ve tried using the original JPG image, but it makes no difference. I’ve upgraded from CS2 and never had problems with this stuff before.

Any clues?

I’ve just discovered that when it comes to painting, etc, the Wacom tablet pen works but the associated mouse doesn’t.

Now I have to find out how to get both recognised.

Move the pen well away from the tablet when you want to hand over control to the mouse.

Tried that, Chris, but no joy. I’ve download a newer Wacom driver but that made no difference either.

I received this answer from Wacom:

The problem you are experiencing is actually one we are familiar with in Photoshop. The problem is Photoshop knows you have a pressure sensitive tool and you are choosing to use the mouse (which is not a pressure sensitive tool). If you simply choose a non pressure sensitive brush in Photoshop, your mouse will work just fine. You can either create a no-pressure brush or select a non-pressure sensitive brush from the list of presets. A non pressure sensitive brush would not show a variation between the tips and center of the stroke in Stroke thumbnail view. This is a reported bug within Windows.
