Ever since I upgraded to PS3 my pictures open very slowly, at least 20 sec each, either fron Bridge or straight from a file. I’m running a PC with 2gig of ram.

I was running the Beta but I uninstalled it according to instructions. I have cleared all cache, uninstalled and reinstalled PS3 and reset prefs. I’m lost, can any help ? Thanks, MIKE

Pictures saved in what format?
If you open and resave one, does it still open slowly?
How big is your typical file in MB?

Mike, try disabling the "Printer Spooler" service, and see if it speeds up. (This can be done by right clicking "My Computer", and selecting "manage". From there click on "Services" in the left pane, find "Printer Spooler" on the right, right click it and select "Stop").

For me this made PS3 open files as quick as one would expect. Don’t forget to start "printer spooler" afterwards.

I have no idea why it’s causing PS3 to be slow, however.

Tom, Mostly JEPG but it happens with all formats. Yes it always opens a picture slow. My file sizes range from 150kb to 15MB and they all act the same….. I’ve kept PS2 on my computer and it works fine.. Thanks

Daryl, That fixed my problem. After turning the Printer Spooler off all pictures opened very fast. Can I leave that turned off all the time ? I’m not sure what that does.. Thanks a million, this has really been bugging me.. MIKE

Mike: just a thought after Word opened slowly with the message "connecting to printer, esc to cancel"…

Do you have any networked printers which aren’t accessible? I removed all the network printers for machines that were off / no longer on the network, and it sped up PS and Word, with printer spooler running.

Daryl, You did it again. I deleated two printers that used to be on the network and are not used anymore, CS3 worked GREAT.. Thanks again, Mike

Daryl, Just to note, by deleating those printers not only does CS3 work great but my word processor is ten times faster.. Thanks again, Mike

Mike…
Daryls’ solution fixed the same problem for me in another thread which you also contributed to. Try deleting any shared network printers. (You’ll need to restart spooler to see them)

Re-installing the offending printer with bang up to date driver didn’t fix the problem so it must be some sort of network issue. Spooler dependencies are HTTP and RPC.

Thanks again Daryl!

Steve, I guess I’m lucky, I don’t have to reinstall the printers I deleted because they are not used any more.

I just needed to do some house cleaning.. It’s also amazing how it helped my word processing program….

Daryl is really sharp, made my life a lot easier 🙂 MIKE
